McIntosh takes second in county meet

McIntosh's boys and girls swim teams placed second in last week's county meet. The boys lost ot Starr's Mill by 10 points, while the girls lost to Starr's Mill 200-118.

McIntosh's boys set two new county records at the meet. The boys 200-yard medley relay team of senior Chris Koperniak, sophomore Chriss Lee, sophomore Jeb Beard and freshman Thomas Lucak won first place with a time of 1:50.08. This is a state qualifying time and good enough to shatter the county record of 1:50.39 which McIntosh set in 1999. Lucak also nabbed another county record by taking first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.55. The previous record of 1:00.82 was set in 1996.

McIntosh's other first place finish came in the 400 relay. The team of sophomores Riki Otaki, Andrew Morton and Jeb Beard and freshman Bryan Mitchell finished the event with a time of 4:07.27.

McIntosh had eight second-place finishes and six third place finishes. Second-place finishers were Koperniak and Lindsey Lochridge in the 100 yard breaststroke with times of 1:08.60 and 1:16.95 respectively; Koperniak in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.68, Lochridge in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:10.12; Lucak in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.33; Lee in the 50 free with a time of 23.68 and the 100 free with a time of 52.38 and Beard in the 500 free with a time of 6:11.05.

Third-place finsihers for McIntosh were the 200 yard medley relay team of Lochridge, Caroline Clark, Julie White and Tiffany Grant with a time of 2:11.70; Bryan Mitchell in the 200 free with a time of 2:10.46; Schaefer Abercrombie in the 200 free with a time of 2:26.01; Robby Romeo in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.88, White in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:13.63 and the 400 relay team of Courtney Hahn, Jenna Goedtke, Adele Handy, and Abercrombie with a time of 4:49.19.

"As a young team with many freshmen and sophomores, we're looking forward to even better results at next year's County Championship."

McIntosh will have 14 swimmers at the GHSA Swimming and Diving Championship at the Westminster Schools next Thursday at 5 p.m.
