Regular season of high school basketball ends By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The regular season of high school basketball ends this weekend and local teams are hoping to finish strong. Some teams got some key, confidence-inducing wins on Tuesday. McIntosh's Lady Chiefs got their second home win of the season on Tuesday by defeating Lovejoy 52-51. Lindsay Murphy scored 18 of her 20 points in the first half as McIntosh built a 38-26 lead at the half. That lead shrunk to seven points by the end of the third quarter and to one point with less than a minute remaining. Christa Mann grabbed a big offensive rebound and hit a free throw to push the lead to 52-49 and Lovejoy could not catch up, only hitting two fo their final three free throws. Murphy was the Lady Chiefs leading scorer with Kristen McKillop following with 15 points. The two combined to hit seven three-pointers. McIntosh's boys did not fare as well losing to Lovejoy 72-45. McIntosh will play at Starr's Mill tonight and will host Landmark Christian tomorrow. East Coweta's boys and girls basketball teams defeated Starr's Mill in very close games. The Lady Indians won 42-37 with Ashley Godfrey scoring 20 points, while Starr's Mill's Ashley Marine scored 13 points. The East Coweta boys pulled away in the final minute and won 60-56. Roger McDowell scored 16 points, including the final basket for the Indians, while Mike Mock led the Panthers with 21 points. Starr's Mill wraps up the regular season tonight at home with a game against McIntosh. It is senior night for Starr's Mill. The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots are still hot. They have won 11 of their last 13 games, including three in a row. On Tuesday, the Lady Patriots defeated Douglas County 64-53. Jennifer Jaracz scored 16 points for Sandy Creek in the win. The boys three game win streak came to an end with a 100-73 loss to Douglas County, the top team in region 4-AAAA. Aaron Caruthers scored 27 points for the Patriots. Sandy Creek finishes the regular season tonight by hosting Northgate. It is senior night for Sandy Creek. Our Lady of Mercy's boys and girls teams split. The Lady Bobcats defeated St. Francis 47-36. Amy Fortener netted the team's first triple-double in school history with 10 points, 15 rebounds and 11 steals, while Cagney Stigger scored 18 points. The boys lost to St. Francis, which has now won 20 in a row, 73-41. Sebastian Kurtz scored 12 points for the Bobcats. Our Lady of Mercy wraps up the regular season on Saturday at Blessed Trinity in Roswell. Newnan's boys and girls both defeated Fayette County on Tuesday in Fayette's final game of the regular season. The Lady Cougars won 73-62 and the Cougars won 71-55.
