ECCA ready for 18th annual Valentine Ball By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Though Valentine's Day is a little over a week away, those wishing to do something romantic with their spouse or partner may want to don some swanky attire and attend the Endowment Committee for the Cultural Arts (ECCA) of Fayette County's 18th annual Valentine Ball this Saturday. The annual ball is the group's largest fundraiser of the year and benefits local visual and performing arts groups and graduating seniors in Fayette County who plan on pursuing a career in the arts. Each year the ECCA provides six scholarships to local students. The event, which is black tie optional, will take place at the Wyndham Executive Conference Center Saturday, Feb. 8. The evening begins with a social hour at 7 p.m. and will be followed with dinner and dancing at 8:15 p.m. The music for the evening will be provided by Class Act and there will be live and silent auctions following dinner. Among the items up for auction are a membership for two to the Peachtree City Tennis Center and series tickets for the Villages and Frederick Brown Jr. amphitheaters. The ECCA has close to 100 members and, along with funds raised for grants and scholarships, has tried to raise funds for a cultural arts center. Last year's ball raised over $13,000 dollars. "Supporting this event helps improve the quality of life in the county," said Ball Chairperson Suzanne Heil. "Fine arts programs are traditionally very under-funded and with the grants we provide, plays and programs that wouldn't be able to be done otherwise are able to be presented." Tickets for the Valentine Ball are $85 for ECCA members and $100 for non-members. They can be purchased by contacting Heil at 770-487-8508.
