The Sandy Creek swim team, coached by Joe DeGennaro, produced their first ever All-American on Saturday at the Metro Atlanta Swimming Championships at Westminster High School.

Billy Jamerson won the 100 breast stroke with a time of 58.17, which placed him in the top 10 in the nation in that event and earned his status as an All-American. That time is the fastest in the state and Jamerson will have a chance to beat that time in the state meet which begins Friday, Feb. 14. Jamerson captured two county champion titles on Friday night before winning the 100 yard breaststroke and placing second in the 50 yard freestyle on Saturday. He bettered the state qualifying times and reset the school records in both of those races as well as the 200 yard Individual Medley.

The Sandy Creek swim team also set 41 personal records, 16 school records, three county records and 12 state qualifying times over the weekend. County champions were Jamerson, Angela Gellatly in the 100 yard backstroke and the Boys 200 yard Freestyle Relay team of Jamerson, Dru Duncan, Cliff Turner and Steven Lawson. The county champions also qualified for the state meet.

Other Sandy Creek swimmers who qualified for the state meet this past weekend were Corey Little, Lawson, Duncan and Turner. They are all members of the 200 yard medley relay team along with Jamerson. Members of the girls team who qualified for the state meet were Jessica Harper, Sara Harper, Jessica Pratt, Janine Raasch, and Gellatly, all of whom are members of the 200 yard freestyle relay and medley relay team.

Swimmers who recorded personal best times were Laura Edwards, Courtney Richardson, Amanda Scoggins, Mike White, Malingo Bayadu, Amanda Samson, Robert Collins, Kip Dunlap, Tia Powers, Erin Burdett, Mallory Toscano, Vincent Bethel and Turner.
