Starr's Mill wins area duals

Starr's Mill won the Area 4-AAAAA Duals Meet on Saturday. They defeated Riverdale 66-14, McIntosh 77-0, Mundy's Mill 82-0, Newnan 72-2, and Fayette in the final match 32-21. Starr's Mill finished as the champion and Fayette County was runner-up.

Fayette County defeated Lovejoy 83-0, Newnan 66-7, East Coweta 54-11 and McIntosh 54-23. Wrestlers who were undefeated on the weekend for the Tigers were Thomas Lowery (103), Stephen McElrath (135), Zach Stanley (140), Will Barnes (189), Chris Leslie (215), and Drake McCoy (275).

Both Fayette County and Starr's Mill advance to the State Duals this weekend at McEachern High School.

Starr's Mill will face Jonesboro in the opening round while Fayette County will wrestle Henry County.

Among the other area teams at the duals meet, Newnan took third, McIntosh finished fourth, East Coweta placed fifth, Mundy's Mill was sixth, Riverdale placed seventh, and Lovejoy finished in eighth place. Carver did not compete. McIntosh beat Mundy's Mill and Riverdale, while losing to Starr's Mill, Fayette County and Newnan. Coach Nick Bellantoni was proud of his young team's effort.
