Ask any coach of any team in any sport and he or she will tell you that you want a team to have momentum and confidence heading into the playoffs. Sandy Creek's boys and girls have both with two games left before the region 4-AAAA tournament begins.

Sandy Creek hosted Woodward Academy on Friday night and both the boys and the girls got wins. The Lady Patriots won a hotly contested defensive battle 38-24 to record their first win over Woodward Academy in school history. Coach Jim Waller cited the outstanding defensive play of Tiffany Paschal and Ashley Jones as the difference in the game. The boys won 73-69 thanks to 29 points from Aaron Caruthers and outstanding rebounding from Andrew Gardner and Kevin Lott. Gardner pulled in 19 rebounds, which coach Maurice Triche thinks might be a school record, while Lott grabbed 11 rebounds. Gardner also scored 10 points while Lott scored 13 points.

In Saturday's games against Alexander, the girls won 58-49 while the boys defeated Alexander 80-52. Tiffany Paschal scored 19 points, pulled in 13 rebounds and recorded four assists in the win. In the boys game, Kevin Craig scored 16 points, while Tyler Jones scored 14 points and Aaron Caruthers added 13 points. Both the Lady Patriots and Patriots are fourth in the region but things could change by the end of the week. Sandy Creek played at Douglas County last night and will host Northgate on Friday for senior night.

Fayette County's boys won their fourth game i a row on Friday with a 51-44 win over McIntosh. The two teams battled throughout the night and McIntosh went into the final quarter with a 32-27 lead. The Tigers went on a 13-0 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to take control of the game and get the win. Dexter Manley led the Tigers with 17 points, while Adam McWilliams scored 13 for the Chiefs. In the girls game, Fayette County won 68-45. The Lady Tigers snapped a two game losing streak thanks in part to 13 points from Stefanie Norman and Megan Nichols. Alice Lowery scored 15 points for the Lady Chiefs, eight of which came in the fourth quarter as McIntosh tried to mount a comeback.

Fayette County's regular season came to a close last night with a game at Newnan. McIntosh hosted Lovejoy last night and will play at Starr's Mill on Friday.

Starr's Mill's boys and girls lost to Carver on Friday night. The Lady Panthers started slowly and fell behind Carver. Though they had a much better second half of the game, they could not overcome the deficit and lost 63-54. Ashley Marine scored 21 points while Erica Harris added 15 points and Jenny Norman scored 10 points. The boys had an early lead on Carver and found themselves tied with them 27-27 at the half. Carver kicked it into a higher gear in the second half though building a 49-44 lead at the end of the third quarter and winning 75-57 after hitting a number of foul shots down the stretch.

The top scorers for Starr's Mill were Andy Drum with 17 points, Mike Mock with 13, eight of which came in the first quarter, and Caleb Graham with 11. Starr's Mill wraps up the season with two games that promise to be very exciting.

The Panthers played at East Coweta last night and will host McIntosh on Friday for senior night.
