SouthSide Pioneers track team getting ready for new season

The SouthSide Pioneers Track Team had a stellar inaugural season last summer. The team sent over a dozen tracksters to regional and national USATF and AAU track and field championships. The Pioneers also received the 2002 Georgia Games Team Sportsmanship Award last summer where 30 of its members qualified for the 2003 State Games of America to be held in Hartford, Connecticut this coming August.

The team has become known as the summer track feeder program for middle schools, high schools, and high school graduates from Fayette, South Fulton, Clayton, and Coweta counties. Last summer, its 2002 Georgia Games Championship Team in the Young Men's 4x100 relay was comprised of Joshua McCrary and Auston Childs (Fayette County High), Donovan Herring (Sandy Creek), and Mitch Sargent (Starr's Mill).

In an effort to gear up for its 2003 summer program, the SouthSide Pioneers Track Club will begin a spring training program in early March. This program will include team competition against local USATF and AAU teams in the Atlanta area and competition at the Bell & Schlau Relay Classic held annually at Charleston Southern University in Charleston, SC.

If you are dedicated to children and young adults and have experience in track and field, the SouthSide Pioneers invite you to join their coaching staff. Serious inquires can be faxed to Danielle Mathis at 770-716-2100 or emailed to: sspioneers@netzero.com.
