Rising Starr wrestlers win MMSAL title By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Rising Starr Middle School was the site of the Metro Middle School Athletic League wrestling championships over the weekend. The team from Rising Starr, fresh off of winning the county championships the week before, captured the league title over the other 11 schools. Henry County and Union Grove placed second and third, while Fayette Middle School placed fourth, Whitewater Middle placed sixth, Booth Middle placed eighth and Flat Rock Middle School placed ninth. Rising Starr had six individual champions, while Fayette Middle had two. The six champs for Rising Starr were Jason Allen (75), Kevin Thurber (80), Brandon Ferguson (85), Derek King (90), John Donaldson (105) and Brandon Witta (120). Fayette Middle's two champs were Blake Underwood (157) and Josh Mickey (167). Fayette Middle also won the most improved award. Rising Starr also had three second place winners, two third place winners and one fourth place winner, while Fayette Middle had four second place winners, two third place winners and three fourth place winners. Booth Middle had two second place winners and a fourth place winner, while Whitewater had two second place winners and three thrid place winners and Flat Rock had three fourth place winners.
