LDS Church dedicates new chapel on Redwine Road

A new church in Fayette County, the Redwine Road Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), was dedicated last Sunday.

The new building will serve two local congregations the Whitewater Ward and the Fayetteville Ward with a total membership of more than 600 people. The Fayetteville Ward is a new unit of the LDS Church's Jonesboro Stake, having been formed from parts of the Peachtree City Ward and the Whitewater Ward.

The two units that will meet at the new Fayetteville building cover an area that encompasses all of Fayette County and parts of Coweta and Clayton counties.

"Growth in both congregations was the impetus for the formation of the Fayetteville Ward and the construction of the Redwine Road building," said David H. Ingram, president of the LDS Church's Jonesboro Stake, who presided at Sunday's dedication. A teacher, coach and the head of the Junior ROTC program at East Coweta High School, Ingram has been president of the Jonesboro Stake since March 1999.

The Jonesboro Stake, which has a total membership of approximately 3,800 individuals, covers an area from Franklin in Heard County to the west, to Thomaston to the south, and to Jonesboro to the north and east.
