Flag supporters still fight despite rejection, ignorance

Mr. Ryder's article on the Georgia flag with the Confederate battle emblem was an unwarranted attack on the Sons of Confederate Veterans and all the other Southern heritage groups that have worked so hard for the past several years to save the flag and to save many other Confederate memorials. Where do you get off disgracing your Confederate ancestors by not fighting for a fraction of the freedom they fought [for]?

My president, Jefferson Davis, CSA, once said, "I make no terms. I accept no compromise." These are the words I have lived since joining the fight to preserve my Confederate and Southern heritage.

I have spoken to anyone who would listen. I have taught high schoolers in the schools that would have me. I have submitted articles to news agencies to publish. I have marched in Confederate flag rallies in three states. I proudly display Confederate emblems on my vehicle. I have sold and donated Confederate bumper stickers to those who would display them. I have flagged every elected official at the state Capitol crossing the street from the legislative building.

All this I have done is only a drop in the bucket to my fellow compatriots in the Sons of Confederate Veterans, League of the South and Southern Party of Georgia.

More than this has been accomplished by my compatriots and myself in spite of the newspapers refusing to print our articles, despite public schools refusing us entry, despite TV propaganda, despite the politicians, despite some law enforcement agencies, despite the lies of the NAACP, despite the outside agitators, despite non-Georgians and despite mediocrity.

We will put our flag back up despite Mr. Ryder's article, the current crop of politicians, the socialist public school system, the Marxist news media and all other who would lie about us to promote their own agendas. This will be done even if the fight has to pass to our children and grandchildren.

Mr. Ryder, I would ask you to join us in the trenches but I believe you are more of a history bluff than a history buff. You being a pilot will understand when I say there is an airline ready when you are.

For those of you who understand this is a fight not about a piece of cloth but a fight for freedom, we still have room for those with courage.

Harold Harrison, Jr.
