Librarians learning Spanish is no favor to immigrants

I was disturbed to read in Friday's Citizen Review that two of our ladies from the library are learning Spanish in order to better serve the Hispanic community.

We do our new citizens no favor when we attempt to provide everything in their own language instead of working towards encouraging them to learn English.

A new citizen will NEVER become fully assimilated into our culture without learning our language, and to provide them with all they need in their own language only helps ensure that they will never learn English.

If I can be given the proper training, I will gladly volunteer my time to the library to help teach English as a second language.
