Newnan's boys and girls basketball teams faced Starr's Mill on Tuesday night and both teams scored 51 points. Unfortunately, neither of the Starr's Mill teams could muster over 38 points. The Lady Panthers fell to Newnan 51-36, while the boys lost 51-38.

The Starr's Mill girls found themselves down by 10 points at the end of the first and second quarter and by 14 points heading into the fourth.

"It was an ugly game," said Coach Bob Ferguson. "We did not play with a lot of intensity." Among the players that gave a good performance for the Lady Panthers were Jenny Norman who scored 15 points, Ashley Marine, who finished with 12 points and freshman Katie Jacobsen who played some solid defense.

The Starr's Mill boys played a good first quarter and had a 10-8 lead over the Cougars going into the second quarter. Newnan outscored the Panthers in the second quarter 15-4 and 13-7 in the third quarter to take control of the game. The Panthers made a run in the fourth, as Mike Mock and Caleb Graham combined to score all 17 fourth quarter points and cut Newnan's lead to six points. Graham finished with 18 points while Mock added 12 points.

Starr's Mill will host Fayette County on Friday night and will travel to take on lovejoy on Saturday. Starr's Mill and Fayette County's boys are both 4-5 in the region but the Panthers are 3-1 in the region at home.

Sandy Creek's boys and girls hosted Alexander on Tuesday night and kept their winning ways going. The boys defeated Alexander 71-31, while the girls won 60-28.

After a talk at halftime Sandy Creek came out and scored 46 points, holding the young Alexander team to 15 points. Kevin Craig scored 18 points for the Patriots and pulled in eight rebounds, while Aaron Caruthers added 15 points. Kerry Atkinson chipped in an additional 11 points.
