Residents have a new source for sporting goods "No more driving all over the place to get soccer socks!" That was the reaction of one Peachtree City soccer mom when she discovered GoodSports, a new sports specialty store in the Gold's Gym complex at Highway 74 and Aberdeen Parkway. GoodSports opened in November with a large inventory of apparel, equipment and accessories for baseball, softball, tennis, and of course, soccer. Owners Robert and Teri Sasseville are not newcomers to the retail business. Many will remember them from their 25 years operating South Fulton Tennis Center. Robert is one of the most respected USTA tournament directors in the country, as well as vice president of the Georgia Tennis Association. Teri is an award-winning tennis retailer, and a former president of the Georgia Chapter of the Autism Society of America. According to Robert, "We have so many friends in the tennis communities in Fayette and Coweta Counties, it was only natural that we would open a shop in this area when we left South Fulton." It was at the urging of several of those friends in our area, that the Sassevilles expanded their tennis business to include soccer, baseball, and fast pitch softball. "We are still hearing from people who want us to bring in other sports." says Teri Sasseville. We'd like to add new categories if there is a need. We're looking into adding ladies golfwear now. We do have some basic accessories for golf, running and fitness. Our only limitation will be space." GoodSports already has a wide selection of apparel and equipment in the leading brands. Mizuno warm-up suits and apparel are available in some of the local high school team colors. "We've tried to focus on the highest quality products," says Robert, "while still offering a good selection in all price ranges. Nokona's hand-made baseball gloves are considered by serious baseball and softball players to be the best. Until now, they have not been available in this area. " In addition to traditional sports equipment and apparel, GoodSports offers sterling and gold sports jewelry. Jersey numbers, "Soccer Mom," tennis, baseball, and softball items are in stock. Home accessories, purses, and whimsical sports boxers and fashion jewlery have also been popular. An exclusive line of NCAA licensed needlepoint pillows, quilts and accessories will be arriving soon. Taking the name of their store to heart, the Sassevilles will be sponsoring "The GoodSports Award" recognizing exemplary sportsmanship on kid's soccer, baseball, softball, and tennis (and possibly other) teams in Peachtree City and surrounding areas. "We called the shop GoodSports for a reason. We want to live up to that name in all aspects of our business." A grand opening celebration with celebrity appearances and prizes is planned for February. Look for details in the Jan. 22 edition of The Citizen or contact GoodSports at 770-631-0930.
