Basketball teams back in action after holiday break, tournaments By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Local basketball teams hoped to stay sharp by participating in holiday basketball tournaments or playing out of region games. Starr's Mill hosted a tournament and both the Starr's Mill boys and girls teams, as well as the McIntosh Lady Chiefs, struggled against some tough competition. The Lady Chiefs and the Starr's Mil Panthers placed sixth, while the Lady Panthers placed fourth. The Starr's Mill boys defeated East Coweta 45-38 with some key free throw shooting in the fourth quarter but lost to Eagle's Landing 49-42 and to Riverwood 61-48. The Lady Panthers defeated the Mt. Zion Lady Bulldogs 56-37 but fell to Norcross 52-35 and lost to Eagle's Landing 46-31. McIntosh's Lady Chiefs got one win in the tournament as well. They defeated Riverwood 64-33 but lost to Eagle's Landing 44-28 and to East Coweta 45-38. Fayette County's boys and girls stayed out of holiday tournaments but faced Cross Keys on Saturday and both got wins. The Lady Tigers won 71-26, while the boys won 57-52. Games played last night after the paper went to press were McIntosh at Lovejoy, Sandy Creek agaianst Douglas County, Fayette County against Newnan, Our Lady of Mercy against Pacelli and Starr's Mill against East Coweta. Games scheduled for this weekend are Starr's Mill at McIntosh, Northgate at Sandy Creek and Our Lady of Mercy at Heard County on Friday and Fayette County at Sandy Creek and Our Lady of Mercy at Landmark Christian on Saturday. Friday's games start at 7 p.m. while Saturday's games start at 6 p.m. The varsity girls play first and the boys games follow.
