Things I'd like to do in 2003

Resolutions, schmesolutions.

The past two years I've talked about resolutions and I didn't follow through on them - at least not for the whole year. Looking at what I said were my resolutions last year I only accomplished a little of what I set out to do. I did complete a play, but it still needs work. I did bring my lunch more, for a little while, and I did not clean out my car every week. In fact, there may be something living under the driver's seat. I drive on my tiptoes.

So, like I said: resolutions, schmesolutions. Instead, I want to write about what I would like to do this year, realizing that I will never be able to accomplish all of these items. Next year I will look back and see how many of the things I did accomplish. It is about volume.

First off, I want to establish a theater festival that will include works from all local companies and high schools. I think it would be really cool if there was one weekend dedicated to theater in the county and people could see all different types of works. I know there are a lot of people as passionate about theater as I am and if we all work together we can make this happen.

Secondly, I want to publish my play, which means it needs some strong revisions. I really do need to stick to last year's resolution of working on it every day.

And now, a giant list of things I would like to do in 2003.

See REM in Italy this summer.

Get my comedy troupe back up and running or at least do another sketch comedy show.

Read the Bible I have started reading it on a number of occasions and just can't finish it. Maybe I'll finish it this year.

Get back into yoga.

Run a 5K.

Use my new bike more often.

Landscape my garden and plant some flowers.

Go to New Orleans.

Finish Kingdom Hearts It's a video game and a hard one at that.

Put aside my change each day.

Write letters to my heroes.

See Pearl Jam anywhere.

Learn to drive a stick shift.

Go roller skating.

Go bowling.

Start up the "pint night" tradition again - though certainly not every pint night.

Try out for a play.

Start a Web site.

Take more dance classes and use what I've learned - at least once.

Climb a mountain.

Skydive.

Go whitewater rafting.

See "The Lion King" - the musical.

Go to Music Midtown again.

Take more pictures.

Go to Savannah and/or Charleston.

Read the next part of Stephen King's Dark Tower series (hopefully).

Hopefully, read the fifth Harry Potter book.

Burn my own greatest hits CDs of my favorite bands.

Interview Bono.

Meet the Dalai Lama.

Investigate a haunted house.

Have a seance.

See Georgia beat Florida in football.

Spend an entire weekend in my pajamas (and not because I'm sick).

And, finally,

lay the groundwork for my political career.

We'll see how many of these things I can accomplish in 2003.

If you are interested in helping the TheaterFest get off the ground, e-mail me at mikeboylanrules@hotmail.com and we'll start working on it.

Happy New Year!
