Next Backyard meeting Jan. 14

Hulyn Smith grows camellia blossoms the size of a dinner plate in a range of color from pink to red to magenta. Gardeners and plant collectors "ooohed" and "aaaahed" over Smith's unbelievably beautiful camellias at the 2002 statewide Master Gardener meeting in Gwinnett County. Coweta County Master Gardeners were inspired to invite Smith to the Backyard Association meeting so others in our community could experience the wonder of Camellia reticulata.

Smith is bringing his spectacular collection to town Jan. 14 and looks forward to coming home. Smith is one of Coweta's own, having been raised on a dairy farm years ago in Coweta County. His ventures in life took him away from Coweta County and over the years camellias have become his passion. He has served as president of the American Camellia Society and oversees the operation of producing and shipping his camellias around the world. You won't want to miss this session of the Backyard Association.

The Backyard Association, sponsored by Coweta County Extension Service, is open to the public and meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday evening of each month except December. Reservations are required and admission is free. The sessions are held at the Coweta County Extension Service, 21 East Washington Street in Newnan. For more information, contact 770-254-2620.
