The East Coweta Indians got their rematch with Parkview in the Class AAAAA state semifinals in the Georgia Dome last Friday, though they had to wait close to an extra hour and a half due to the previous game running long.

When the game finally began, the Indians came out and stopped Parkview on their first drive of the night but stalled after converting two first downs themselves. The Panthers started another drive from good field position but Jay Walton intercepted a pass and got the ball back for the Indians. The first quarter ended with both teams deadlocked at 0-0, but Parkview would strike early in the second quarter with a 36-yard field goal.

The Indians struggled offensively in the rest of the second quarter, getting only one first down and throwing an interception with a little over three and half minutes remaining. The Panthers drove down the field and punched in a touchdown near the end of the first half for a 10-0 lead.

East Coweta started with the ball in the third quarter and punted after going three and out. Parkview put together a seven minute drive and scored again. The Panthers added another touchdown early in the fourth quarter and won the game 24-0.

East Coweta was outgained 283-111 on offense and running back Derek White, who rushed for over 1,000 yards this season, only rushed for 21 yards on the evening. The Indians ended their season with an 8-6 record but made it further than any team in school history. Their march in the playoffs was a memorable one and will give future teams something to remember and shoot for.
