Get creative with Roly Poly's rolls

Even the name "Roly Poly" piques your interest.

It began as a simple but unique idea in a Tex-Mex restaurant in 1973. The vision was for fabulous sandwiches, fresh ingredients, and a fun environment.

Today, these tasty rolls, which are one-part sandwich, one-part wrap, are served in 108 locations across the country, including Peachtree City, where Bill and Linda Barlow have been serving hungry customers since 1998.

Roly Poly sandwiches begin with fresh flour tortillas and are filled with top quality meats, cheeses, fresh vegetables and spreads.

"We are the original rolled sandwich," Bill Barlow said recently. "We have 59 sandwiches on our menu at this time and that's all we concentrate on, where others are getting away from their main product and trying to imitate Roly Poly."

The customer favorite in Peachtree City is #30 - Basil Cashew Chicken, a roll of white meat chicken salad, fresh basil mayo, cashews, spicy Thai sauce, avocado, lettuce, tomato and sprouts. Another favorite is pepper steak (#14), a roll of roast beef, cheddar cheese, onion, green pepper, lettuce, tomato and horseradish sauce.

During the holidays, why not try "thanksgiving" (#9), a roll of turkey breast, corn bread stuffing, cranberry sauce, onion, lettuce and fresh basil mayo? Seafood lovers may want to consider the salmon roll, a log of smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, cucumber, onion, lettuce, tomato, sprouts and fresh dill dressing. Fourteen vegetarian rolls are on the menu. Why not swiss cheese, sliced mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, avocado, spinach and honey mustard dressing in a spinach salad roll? Grilled sandwiches are also popular. Hickory Cristo (#38) is a smoked turkey breast roll including melted brie and Swiss cheese, spinach, mushrooms, tomato, grilled golden brown, and served a side of fresh dill horseradish sauce.

Feeling creative? You can "roll your own" with any combination of Roly Poly's 150 fresh ingredients.

Roly Poly's creations are a great health food, Barlow noted, and a detailed nutritional information pamphlet is available for the diet conscious and weight watcher.

A catering menu is available when you're "ready to roll" for a crowd. Party platters are a great hit during the holidays and for football bowl games.

"It can be a thankless task ordering lunch for a group," Barlow said. "Our job is to make it easier." Roly Poly's staff will assist you in placing a special party or business luncheon order and will deliver in the local area. "We'll deliver a memorable lunch, delicious food, on time and exactly what you ordered," Barlow said.

Six specialty platters are preselected to for these occasions to make decision making easier, or customers may create their own assortment. "The Wild Side" is a favorite party platter. Wild scallion, wild turkey, Italian classic, ranch roast and salmon rolls are included. "Best sellers" includes monster veggie, California combo, smokehouse turkey, pepper steak, and cashew chicken.

For your next special outing or business luncheon, consider Roly Poly's box lunches. These include a rolled sandwich, chips and gourmet cookie or brownie and are $6.99 per person and are especially popular at concerts. Roly Poly also serves a popular baked potato salad and hearty soups.

Beginning the first Monday in January, breakfast will become a part of Roly Poly fare. The restaurant will open at 7 a.m. with a menu of five rolled sandwiches, eggs, coffee, juice, bagel, and muffins Monday through Friday.

The family budget is safe at Roly Poly. Rolls begin at $3.50 for half sizes. Most whole rolls are $5.75. Breakfast meals will start at $2.49. Affordable prices. Local ownership. Healthy food. If you're not already a patron of Roly Poly, this is a great time to give them a try.

The restaurant is located in Peachtree City at 2007 Aberdeen parkway, just off Hwy. 74 in the center with Gold's Gym. Hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
