East Coweta gets rematch with Parkview in state semifinals
By MICHAEL
BOYLAN There are not enough adjectives to describe the East Coweta Indians football season, though the words improbable and dream-like keep coming to mind. The Indians entered the Class AAAAA state playoffs as the fourth seed from region 4-AAAAA with a 5-5 record. Since the beginning of the playoffs, the Indians are 3-0 and have upset Coffee, Warner Robins and Harrison. Tonight, they get a rematch against the team that handed them their first loss this season on the same field. East Coweta's season started with a 21-0 loss to Parkview in the Corky Kell Kickoff Classic at the Georgia Dome. Fans can bet the Indians are looking for some revenge tonight. East Coweta advanced to the state semifinals by taking out the Harrison Hoyas 35-28 last Friday. The Indians trailed the Hoyas by seven points after the first quarter but tied the game at the half with a four yard touchdown reception by Lamar Gay. Derek White rushed for two touchdowns in the third quarter, one for 76 yards and one for 30 yards, but the score was still deadlocked at the end of the third quarter. Harrison took a lead early in the fourth but East Coweta roared back for the win with a 22-yard touchdown reception from Jay Walton and a 64-yard touchdown run from White, who finished with 242 yards rushing. Now the Indians are gunning for a shot at a state title but to get there they will have to unseat one of the hottest high school football teams in America, Parkview, which has a winning streak of over 40 games. East Coweta has won five in a row and has outscored their opponents 157-58 in that stretch. The game tonight will start at 9 p.m. Admission is $12 and is good for all the games on Friday.
