McIntosh wrestling team splits at first meet of season

McIntosh opened up their wrestling season with a meet against East Coweta and Central Carrollton. The Chiefs defeated Central Carrollton 49-29 but lost to East Coweta 43-29.

Top winners in the Central Carrollton match were Ryne Rushing, 103, pin; Chris Cool, 119, pin, Justin Edwards, 130, pin; Andy Ellinas, 152, decision; Cameron Hall, 160, pin; Thomas Beck, 189, pin; Darryl Walton, 215, pin. Top winners against East Coweta were Edwards and Hall by pin and Ellinas by decision.

"I'm pleased with the way we wrestled," said Coach Nick Bellantoni. "I liked our fight and aggressiveness." Bellantoni will take his team to The Program Challenge at Union Grove this weekend, a tournament that combines the scores from the middle school and high school wrestling programs to determine who has the best program. Wrestling begins with four rounds of dual meets on Friday night to determine seeding for Saturday. McIntosh will be competing against such schools as Landmark Christian, Grayson, Pace Academy, Marist, Wesleyan, Walker and others.
