Starr's Mill basketball teams get wins on Tuesday night

There was a full slate of region basketball games on Tuesday night and only the Starr's Mill boys and girls teams and the Fayette County Lady Tigers emerged victorious.

Starr's Mill hosted Newnan. The Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Cougars 54-48, while the boys won 58-55. The Lady Panthers got an outstanding game from Erica Harris who scored 23 points, nabbed 11 rebounds and shot 72 percent from the floor. Coach Bob Ferguson was especially pleased with the team's intense defense. The boys built a three point lead by the half and and 13 point lead in the fourth quarter but Newnan charged back with five three poointers in the final three minutes to give Starr's Mill a run for their money. matt Mock led the Panthers in scoring, while Andy Drum added 11 points. Drum was key tothe win, going six for six from the foul line and Chris Hadzick hit the final shot to give the Panthers the win.

Fayette County's boys and girls split against Lovejoy. The Lady Tigers edged out Lovejoy 62-61, thanks to 26 points from Stefanie Norman, 15 of which came from three pointers, and 16 points from Tiffany Norris. The boys lost to the undefeated Lovejoy Wildcats, 85-64. Fayette County will host Starr's Mill on Friday night with the girls playing at 7 p.m. and the boys following at 8:30 p.m.

Sandy Creek's Lady Patriots (2-3) lost a close one to Lithia Springs, 55-54. "We had a few opportunites at the end but couldn't make the play or hit the shot," said Coach Jim Waller. "Right now we are looking for consistency. We're not there yet." Ashley Jones led all socrers with 15 points, while Alyssa Ruff had nine points and Ramsey Heft and Tiffany Paschal added eight points. The Sandy Creek boys fell to Lithia Springs 71-64. Aaron Carruthers scored 22 points for the Patriots, while Kevin Craig added 11.

Sandy Creek will host Pebblebrook on Friday night and will travel to take on Forest Park on Saturday. Friday's games will start at 7 p.m. and Saturday's games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

McIntosh's boys and girls faced Riverdale on Tuesday night. The Lady Chiefs lost 68-30 to the undefeated Lady Raiders, while the boys lost 66-53. McIntosh will host Mundy's Mill tonight with game beginning at 7 p.m.
