Sandy Creek swim team splits at first meet of season

The Sandy Creek High School swim team defeated Shaw High School but lost to Fayette County high School in its first meet of the season. Much of Sandy Creek's team consists of first-year swimmers, but the team set 20 personal best times and four school records in the meet, and had a state qualifying time.

Bill Jamerson set new school records in the boys 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. His time in the breaststroke also qualified him for the state championships and places him at the top of early-season rankings. Jessica Pratt swam four personal best times and set new school records in the girls 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.

Other winners for the Sandy Creek team included Kelly Ivey, Jessica Harper, Sara Harper, Chris Troutman, Mitch Lentini and Cliff Turner. Other swimmers recording personal best times were Barron Brown, Laura Edwards and Amanda Scoggins.

Tonight, Starr's Mill and McIntosh swim teams will face off at the Kedron Aquatic Center at 5:30 p.m.
