Tree lightings start day after Thanksgiving By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The Christmas season officially starts the day after Thanksgiving with big holiday sales and local tree lightings. Peachtree City will have their second annual lighting of the Peace Tree at The Avenue on Friday, while Fayetteville will get into the holiday spirit on Saturday and Tyrone will have their ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The Peachtree Wind Ensemble is just one of the groups performing at the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree at The Avenue in Peachtree City. The wind ensemble will perform from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Santa Claus will be on hand for the evening's events as will a chorale grop from New Hope Baptist Church, the Peachtree School of Dance, Miss Georgia Amy Mulkey and headliner Francine Reed. Main Street Fayetteville's annual Christmas tree Lighting and carriage rides. The event will kick off with performances by The Fayette Youth Chorale directed by Millie Turek and the newly formed Southern Crescent Chorale directed by Janice Folsom. Featured soloist for Southern Crescent is Casey Huggins. Mayor Ken Steele will perform the duties of "Master of Ceremonies". This year's honored guest performing the actual "lighting" of the tree will be Fayette County High student Justin Holloway. Nearly one year ago, December 14, 2001, Justin was involved in an automobile accident which left him with grievous injuries. Justin has made tremendous strides but is still undergoing a series of operations. Coffee, hot chocolate and funnel cakes will be available to help warm you up during the ceremony. The fun will continue even after the tree is lit with Santa providing free carriage rides until 9:00 p.m. Photo packages will also be available for purchase. Tyrone's annual lighting of the Christmas Tree will take place next Tuesday from 5:30-8 p.m. Children can take a sleigh ride with Santa and his elves, enjoy hot chocolate and be entertained by the Tyrone Tempos from Tyrone Elementary School, the Flat Rock Middle School Band and Fayette Players and Community Theatre, Inc.
