FCH leaving PROMINAFayette Community Hospital and its parent hospital, Piedmont Medical Center, will no longer be a member of the PROMINA Health System. The health system's Board of Directors received and accepted Piedmont Medical Center's letter of intent to withdraw from PROMINA as a full member and will work with Piedmont to facilitate its formal withdrawal early next year. PROMINA is altering its direction after exiting its strategy to accept risk in managed care contracting, and will continue with the DeKalb, Gwinnett and Southern Regional Health Systems working on integrated quality initiatives, contracting and purchasing. "The Atlanta healthcare environment has changed, and the challenges that brought us together eight years ago have shifted," said R. Timothy Stack, President and CEO of Piedmont Medical Center. "We will continue to provide services under our existing managed care contracts, and we anticipate an ongoing friendly relationship with PROMINA. We recognize the value of PROMINA to its other members and wish them success in moving forward." PROMINA was formed in 1994 as an alliance of medical centers to try and manage health care costs, said Piedmont's Nina Montanaro, who serves as the hospital public relations director. Duane Blair, M.D., chairman of the PROMINA Board and representative of the DeKalb System, says it still makes good sense for DeKalb, Gwinnett and Southern Regional to move forward in PROMINA and the three systems made a formal resolution to do so. The parties will begin work immediately to facilitate the withdrawal. Montanaro said patients will see no change in the level of service. "It should be totally transparent," she said.
