Stillions picked to head new high school

McIntosh High School principal Greg Stillions was named Tuesday morning to the same post at the new Whitewater High School, which is slated to open next fall.

The Board of Education approved the appointment, which was the recommendation of Superintendent John DeCotis, at a special called meeting. Stillions was picked from a list of three final candidates.

The next move for the school board will be to begin the interview process for Stillions' replacement at McIntosh, according to school system spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach.

An educator for 20 years, Stillions has worked in Fayette County since the fall of 1996, when he was named assistant principal and athletic director at McIntosh. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Mount Zion High School in Clayton County, beginning as a teacher and coach at the school's inception in 1989.

The permanent Whitewater High School campus is now under construction off Ga. Highway 85 south of Fayetteville, but the school will open next fall in the LaFayette Educational Center to allow rising freshmen to begin there rather than spend a single year at another school. Whitewater will be the county's fifth public high school.
