PTC mayor urges residents to shop local this season

With Thanksgiving, the biggest shopping day of the year, approaching tomorrow, Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown wants to encourage residents to shop in local stores. He proclaimed "Shop Peachtree City Month" at last week's City Council Meeting.

Brown said, "Peachtree City now really has some great shopping opportunities for the Christmas holidays, which is good for our local economy. Dollars spent in Fayette mean sales taxes stay in Fayette."

"It also helps our local businesses, which provide employment opportunities and property taxes and are vital to our local economy."

Brown also noted that he is seeing plenty of cars from outside Peachtree City at local retail establishments.

"Some of our newer stores are seeing a record volume of Christmas related purchases and lay-aways. I think we are really benefiting from the wide variety of stores in town now, and the fact that our sales tax is one of the lowest in the region."

He continued, "We also have a large selection of restaurants, which gives people the excuse to make a full day of shopping because shopping and eating go hand in hand."

"Shop Peachtree City Month" began Monday to include what is traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year, the day after Thanksgiving, and will extend through Christmas Eve, December 24.

The City of Peachtree City Web site includes a full listing of stores and restaurants inside the city limits.
