SCV gives service awards By CAROLYN

Two members of the Sharpsburg Sharpshooters Sons of Confederate Veterans received service medals for service to their country. James Lee Weaver received the medal for service during the Vietnam era. He was active and in reserve from 1960 to 1996, obtaining the rank of chief warrant officer in the United States Naval Reserve. He participated in the Cuba, Haiti, and Vietnam operations and has received 33 decorations and citations. Member Don Murray was awarded the SCV War Service Medal for his service during World War II. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served until Oct. 1945. He achieved the rank of tech sergeant and participated in the campaigns of Guadalcanal, the Northern Solomons, and the Bismarck Archipelago, South Pacific. He received the American Defense ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon with three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. The SCV War Service Medal is available to all members who qualify and had an ancestor that served in the Confederate Army during the War Between The States.
