Fleeing motorcyclist caught at roadblock By JOHN

A Fayetteville man led a sheriff's deputy on a brief chase Tuesday afternoon in north Fayette County after his motorcycle passed another vehicle on a hill crest in a no passing zone, police said. Samuel Joseph Marsh, 22, of Fayetteville refused to stop after Dep. James Price pulled behind him on Rivers Road with his blue lights activated at approximately 12:38 p.m., said Capt. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. The pursuit never reached high speeds as Marsh cut through several side streets to reach Kenwood Road, Woodie said. Deputies set up a roadblock at Kenwood Road near Thornton Lane that forced Marsh to stop, and he was arrested after being boxed in by other deputies, Woodie said. Marsh was charged with passing in a no passing zone, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, failure to stop for a stop sign, driving without a license on person and improper tag display. No one was injured during the pursuit, nor were there any "close calls" with other vehicles on the road, Woodie said, noting that he had reviewed the tape from Dep. Price's vehicle. At this particular time of day, there was very little traffic on the road, he added. "It was consistent with department policy and monitored by a supervisor," Woodie said. "It was resolved the way most chases are quietly and without incident."
