Suspect in F'ville bank burglary pleads guilty

A Stockbridge man has pled guilty to burglarizing a Fayetteville bank after business hours last year while also damaging the automated teller machine.

Zachary Colson, 18, pled guilty in court Friday to felony counts of burglary and criminal damage to property. He was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Johnnie L. Caldwell Jr. to three years in prison followed by seven years probation.

Police said Colson and Alvin L. McNair, 20 of Cochran pried the ATM away from Southern Federal Credit Union and Colson acted as a lookout while McNair entered the bank through the opening.

McNair is charged with felony burglary, possession of tools used in the commission of a crime and criminal damage to property in the second degree.

Colson's attorney, Michael Bergin, pointed out that his client did not enter the bank.

Judge Caldwell also accepted the following guilty pleas Friday morning:

David Kreiss, for one felony count of selling methamphetamine and possession of marijuana (less than one ounce). Sentenced to five years in prison.

Christopher McNeal Barfield, for one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle (golf cart). Sentenced under the first offender act to five years probation.
