PTC Council to decide industrial-to-residential rezoning By JOHN MUNFORD
The Peachtree City City Council will consider appointing a new city attorney and city solicitor at its regular meeting Thursday night. Council will also hear a rezoning request for a 124-home single family subdivision off Ga. Highway 74 near Falcon Field, at the southernmost city limits, on property currently zoned general industrial. Councilman Murray Weed, a municipal attorney who represents the city of Hapeville, will present his recommendations for the city attorney and solicitor positions to council at the meeting. The city has accepted proposals from attorneys and firms willing to perform as either city attorney, solicitor or both. The city also has taken applications from attorneys interested as serving in both roles as an in-house counsel. According to city documents, the "preferred" choice would be to hire Sanders, Haugen, Sears and Meeker, P.C. as city attorney and Warren A. Sellars, P.C. as city solicitor. That combination would save an estimated $70,984 compared to the amount council paid for those services last fiscal year, according to city figures. The city paid a total of $303,384 last year for its city attorney and solicitor services, which were provided by Rick Lindsey of Webb, Lindsey, Collins Jones and Wade. Lindsey chose to resign several months ago but has continued to serve until a replacement could be named. If the rezoning is approved for the 124-home subdivision, Rockaway Road would be realigned to intersect with Hwy. 74 at the traffic light used for Holly Grove Road. The developer also wants to have 6.19 acres along the highway rezoned to commercial for two outparcels. Because the land is in the approach pattern for aircraft landing at Falcon Field, the developer has agreed to refer to that in language on closing documents for each home and in the deed covenants for the subdivision. Council will also consider a separate commercial rezoning for a 2.35-acre tract on Hwy. 74 north near Wisdom Road on property that is currently zoned agricultural reserve. The plans call for two buildings on the parcel, one of which would be a carpet showroom.
