Coweta-Fayette EMC could soon be in the natural gas business. The Georgia Public Service Commission held a hearing yesterday on EMC Natural Gas, Inc.'s application for certification as a natural gas marketer. EMC Natural Gas, Inc. is an affiliate of Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Corporation. The hearing was rescheduled from November 14. The commission is scheduled to make a decision on the EMC Natural Gas application during a Special Administrative Session at 1:30 p.m. on November 26. Georgia law requires an entity to obtain a certificate of authority from the commission before providing natural gas service to residential and business customers. Electric Membership cooperatives are able to apply for a gas marketer certificate of authority under H.B. 1568, approved by the 2002 Georgia General Assembly. Coweta-Fayette's application requests to provide statewide service in all areas served by the Atlanta Gas Light distribution system.
