A late afternoon collision Wednesday between a school bus and a car in northern Coweta County sent seven students to area hospitals.

Coweta County School System public information officer Dean Jackson said the crash occurred around 4 p.m. Wednesday when bus #287 was travelling on Shaw Road and struck by a car.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that Northgate student Joshua Ware, 16, was travelling on Shaw Road and struck the bus on the left side as it turned onto the road. Patrol officials believe Shaw was travelling at a high rate of speed.

The bus was transporting students home from Madras Middle School, and Jackson said six students were transported to Newnan Hospital and Peachtree Regional Hospital shortly after the crash. Jackson said all the students were released Wednesday night.

Ware had to be cut out of his vehicle, Jackson said, and was lifeflighted to Atlanta Medical Center. He was released late Wednesday night.

No charges have been filed in the case and the Georgia State Patrol is continuing its investigation.
