Fayetteville lights up for holidays Nov. 30 Fayetteville's tenth annual Christmas Tree Lighting, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 30, will officially mark the beginning of the Main Street holiday season. The public is invited to gather at Heritage Park, with festivities scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. The traditional lighting of the tree will be followed by complimentary carriage rides with Santa. The event will kick off with performances by the Fayette Youth Chorale, directed by Millie Turek, and the newly formed Southern Crescent Chorale, directed by Janice Folsom. Featured soloist for Southern Crescent is Casey Huggins. Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele will serve as master of ceremonies. This year's honored guest performing the actual "lighting" of the tree will be Fayette County High student Justin Holloway. Nearly one year ago Dec. 14, 2001 Justin was involved in an automobile accident which left him with grievous injuries. He has made tremendous strides but is still undergoing a series of operations. Coffee, hot chocolate and funnel cakes will be available to help warm you up during the ceremony. The fun will continue even after the tree is lit, with Santa providing free carriage rides until 9 p.m. Photo packages will also be available for purchase. For further information about the tree lighting ceremony, please call 770-461-6029.
