Landmark wins state cross country meet

Landmark Christian School's boys cross-country team placed first in the Class A state meet Saturday, while the girls cross-country team placed second. Other local teams put in a good showing at the state meet but failed to bring home a title.

The Landmark boys had their top five runners all place in the top eight places. Blake Feritta was crowned the state champ with a first place finish and a time of 17:15. Robert Jones placed third with a time of 17:22, while James register placed fifth with a time of 17:47. Will Bonn placed seventh with a time of 17:55 and Joseph Register took eighth place with a time of 18:01.

Our Lady of Mercy's boys team placed fourth in the meet. Their top five finishers were Mark Johnson, 20, 18:59; Zack Lethbridge, 24, 19:04; Patrick Super, 30, 19:20; Matt Fraas, 44, 20:14 and Albert Jumper, 54, 20:31.

Landmark's Lady War Eagles were led by Kristina Eden, who placed third with a time of 21:20, and Hope Hurst, who placed fourth with a time of 22:22. Rounding out the top five were Emily Wood, 11, 22:46; Mary Michael Joiner, 13, 22:48 and Courtney Piribek, 19, 23:33.

In the Class AAAAA boys meet, Starr's Mill placed 11th, McIntosh placed 13th and Fayette County placed 18th. The top five runners for Starr's Mill were Bradely Morris, 54, 18:01; Kentavious Wilson, 58, 18:04; Craig Hyatt, 66, 18:09; David Woods, 71, 18:16 and Sankar Sridaran, 90, 18:34. McIntosh's top five were Albarto Jensen, 37, 17:47; Ben Brantly, 49, 17:53; John Powers, 70, 18:14; Ian Hardy, 82, 18:27 and Kevin Christ, 111, 18:59. Fayette County's top five were Blake Alverson, 35, 17:45; David Dalton, 85, 18:30; Ryan Wolfe, 102, 18:44; Nathaniel Foster, 139, 19:27 and Andrew Collins, 140, 19:30.

In the Class AAAAA girls race, McIntosh placed 16th and Starr's Mill placed 18th. McIntosh's top five were Erica Hughey, 36, 21:16; Brittlynn Hall, 97, 22:44; Allison Fratto, 103, 22:51; Alexandra Huguelet, 111, 22:58 and Melissa Anderson, 116, 23:11. The top five for Starr's Mill were Kristin Horton, 24, 20:58; Katie Hughes, 80, 22:22; Jessi Cort, 115, 23:09; Ashley Hyatt, 139, 24:03 and Katy Underwood, 141, 24:05. Fayette County's Claire Bergstrom ran in the race and placed 45th with a time of 21:29.
