Fairburn city administrator Jim Williams would like to see his city become an even more livable city.

Within two weeks, city officials plan to submit an application to the Livable Centers initiative program that could provides seed money for planning the future of Fairburn's downtown.

"We'd like to see some cultural and residential opportunities downtown," Williams said.

Williams said the grant would probably be around $20,000 and allow Fairburn's Planning Commission, along with residents, develop a comprehensive plan for the downtown area.

He expects the city to learn by the beginning of next year if it has received the grant. If the application is successful, Williams said the planning commission will spring into action and start developing plans for the area.

"We'd like to develop a series of projects that would make the whole area more livable," Williams said.
