PTC recreation department hauls in state, district awards

The Peachtree City Recreation Department recently received state and district honors from the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association for the Luther T. Holt Memorial All Children's Playground.

Volunteer Colleen Sugar, who spearheaded the project, received a state GRPA Volunteer Award for her work in helping to raise over $100,000 so far to build two of the three phases of the playground.

The department also received GRPA's District Project Award which recognizes unique projects that serve a special purpose for its efforts to coordinate the playground.

The All Children's Playground is the only totally accessible playground in the south metro Atlanta area, with ramps, bridges and equipment that can be used by any child or adult, regardless of their physical limitations.

Scott Christopher, the department's recreation maintenance facilities manager, was named a Distinguished Professional of the GRPA Maintenance Section for his efforts to reorganize the section and serve as its chairman for the first full year.

The department was also presented a state award for its brochure to recruit volunteers that was designed by recreation program manager Carolyn Stanton.

"We're all very proud of our award winners," said Randy Gaddo, director of leisure services. "I hope that pride is shared by patrons, because the excellence of our people and programs is what will continue to ensure quality service to customers."
