Moratoriums for multi-family rezonings and annexations renewed by PTC council By JOHN
MUNFORD Peachtree City's moratoriums on multifamily rezonings and annexations were renewed by the City Council at its meeting last week. While the moratoriums don't put a brick wall up against such requests, they forbid developers from submitting such requests to city staff for consideration. Developers are allowed to petition council for a waiver so city employees can process the applications and study the proposals. The moratoriums must be renewed on an annual basis to remain in effect. Councilwoman Annie McMemamin said she didn't see the harm in renewing the moratoriums since council can decide to waive the moratoriums on a case by case basis. The moratoriums are a strong showing of council's intent on the city's future, she added. The multifamily rezoning moratorium was enacted by council three years ago to keep from overburdening public safety agencies and area schools while keeping traffic levels from increasing. The moratorium applies to proposals for apartments, townhomes, duplexes, condominiums and assisted living facilities. The annexation moratorium, which dates back to October 1991, is similarly designed to restrict the flow of annexation proposals to the city.
