Starr's Mill presnts play about victims of terrorism The award-winning Advanced Drama class at Starr's Mill High School, under the direction of David Spearman, will present "Two Rooms" by Lee Blessing this Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the McIntosh High School Black Box Theater. "We had originally planned to stage this production at our own school, but the nature of the play is much more effective in a more intimate space," stated Spearman. "The play is seldom performed at the high school level because it takes an extremely talented and mature cast to effectively portray the depth of emotions required by the script. However, I do believe our cast is capable of such a high level of performance." Portraying the role of the hostage, Michael Wells, is Craig De Lorenzo, well known to area audiences for his performance skills in previous high school and community theater productions. Carlee Baker, a senior at Starr's Mill, take on her most demanding role ever as the wife, Lanie. Baker also has en extensive background in high school and community theater productions having been performing since early childhood. Both De Lorenzo and Baker are alumni of the Governor's Honors Program in acting and have been recognized by the Georgia High School Association for their outstanding performances. Rounding out the cast are Tom Lagare and Jessica Lovelace who portray the reporter and State Department representative. "These are crucial roles to the story of 'Two Rooms,' without the strengths of these two fine actors, the story would lose a lot of its impact on the audience," said Spearman. Provocative and compelling, this arresting work deals with a subject much in the mind of contemporary society - the taking of innocent hostages by political terrorists. The play illuminates both the numbing agony of the one detained and also the helpless fury of those who are left behind - loved ones impatient for something to be done, and officials who feel they must be guided by logic rather than emotion. Tickets are $3 in advance and can be purchased by any drama student from Starr's Mill. Tickets at the door are $5. |
