SCAT places second at Southern Showdown

SCAT swimmers finished a close second in team standings during the "Southern Showdown," a tri-meet held in Americus last Saturday.

"We won a lot of hard-fought races in a meet that was exciting and competitive from the beginning to the finish of the last relay," Head Coach Jamey Myers said.

About 50 members of the team traveled to Americus for the one-day meet. In addition to SCAT, teams from Americus and Tallahassee, Fla., attended the event held at Georgia Southwestern State University.

"SCAT swimmers set the standard for cheering and charging the atmosphere," Myers said. "We had a number of great swims that were anywhere from tough swimming to amazing."

Myers gave what he called "The Big Whopper Dropper Awards" to several SCAT swimmers who posted personal best swims by taking impressive amounts of time off their races.

Those swimmer included Austin Pauly,6, in the 25-yard breaststroke, Alexa Cocker,11, in the 50-yard freestyle, Stephanie Zobrist,11, in the 100-yard individual medley and Samantha Currenti,13, in the 200-yard individual medley.

Swimmers Casey DeRidder,13, and Angela Gellatly,16, set new team records in the 50 backstroke.

Female swimmers with at least one top-10 finish include: Melissa Beall, Kristen Bohrer, Lauren Cartwright, Samantha Currenti, Sydney Currenti, Katelyn Davis, Bailey DeRidder, Casey DeRidder, Bailey Garrot, MacKenzie Garrot, Angela Gellatly, Julie Glass, Keaton Hannon, Cassandra Heimann, Heather Highsmith, Samantha Holton, Jennifer Jones, Sarah Larson, Lindsey Lochridge, Diana Massengale, Kiersten Mossburg, Erica Pauly, Jessica Pratt, Kelsey Pratt, Julia Redmon, Nicole Roddenbery, Brittany Stevens, Julie White and Stephanie Zobrist.

Male swimmers with at least one top-10 finish include: Jeb Beard, Nathan Bernth, Vincent Bethel, Casey Blanchard, Noah Copeland, Iain Ferguson, Kyle Goller, Devin Holton, Raleigh Hudson, Billy Jamerson, Kenny Jubb, Thomas Lucak, Matthew Manley, David Menchinger, Alex Menke, Austin Pauly, Zach Payne, Joseph Redmon, SamChun Shimabe, Brian Steele, Andrew Todd and Alec Vazquez.
