Starr's Mill wins region, Landmark is a win away from perfect season By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
Starr's Mill is the lord of The Rock and the region. By defeating Fayette County 28-20 Friday night, the Panthers won the inaugural Rock Trophy and claimed the Region 4-AAAAA championship. Starr's Mill (8-2) continued their winning offensive ways by scoring four touchdowns, two by Deante Battle, one by Johnny Edwards and one by Bobby Clark. The Panthers have scored at least four touchdowns in their last seven games. Fayette County led 14-13 at the half but ended up trailing 21-14 after a Starr's Mill touchdown and a two point conversion in the third quarter. Fayette County responded with a touchdown but missed the extra point and trailed the rest of the way. Fayette County (2-8) got over 250 yards of passing from Jeff Crsip, including a 65 yard touchdown pass to David Roberson. Other scorers for the Tigers were Crisp, who scored on a two yard touchdown run, and John Cocos, who caught a 16 yard touchdown pass. The Tigers ran into a tough defense that overpowered the offensive line late in the game and put lots of pressure on Crisp. Starr's Mill now has a week off before hosting the fourth seed from Region 1-AAAAA in the first round of the state playoffs. Sandy Creek (6-3, 6-2 region) lost a close one to Pebblebrook on Friday night, 20-19. Sandy Creek had a big lead erased in the fourth quarter by two Pebblebrook touchdowns. Phillip Hyde ran for close to 270 yards and scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Dusty Bennett connected with Calvin Johnson on a 60 yard touchdown pass. Jeffrey Robinson recorded an interception for Sandy Creek. The Patriots will travel to Newnan to take on Northgate this Friday. Sandy Creek will likely be the third seed from Region 4-AAAA in the state playoffs. Landmark Christian (9-0) faced Our Lady of Mercy (2-8) on Friday and won 66-0. The War Eagles got three touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back. Quarterback Alex Mortensen threw for over 200 yards, including a 60 yard touchdown pass to Eric Worrell and a 21 yard pass to Sean Hill. Hill also rerurned an interception and a punt for a touchdown. Torey Roberson had two touchdown runs, as did Evander Holyfield Jr., who ran 74 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The War Eagles will try to finish the regular season undefeated when they host Mt. Zion, Carroll on Friday. All kickoffs scheduled for this Friday will begin at 7:30 p.m.
