Let's take
2 meals' worth and donate to charities
At the Nov. 7 City Council meeting, it was my honor to declare Thursday, Nov. 21, as "Feed America Thursday." Mayors across the nation are asking their constituents to share their many blessings with those that are not as fortunate. Dr. David Perry of Provo, Utah, conceived the idea of asking Americans to not eat two meals on Nov. 21 and donate the monetary value of those meals to charities that help feed those in need. I cannot think of a more appropriate gesture than making a donation for food to a local charity one week before Thanksgiving Day when we celebrate the abundance that God has given us. The wonderful people that run our local food related charities are often frustrated by the demand for service and the lack of resources. Let's show them that we appreciate their work and send in our canned or dry goods or financial support. Fayette Samaritans, 213 Jeff Davis Place, Fayetteville, 30214, 770-719-2707 (food or donations). Department of Family and Children Services, Attn: Sharon Herbert, 905 Highway 85 S., Fayetteville, 30215 (donations only). Fayette Senior Services Meals on Wheels, 390 Lee St., Fayetteville, 30214 (donations only). Braelinn Baptist Church and Braelinn Community Services, 777 Robinson Rd., Peachtree City, 30269 (food or donations). Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church, 101 Carriage Lane, Peachtree City, 30269 (donations only). Holy Trinity Catholic Church, contact Mary Ann Cox at 770-487-7672, ext. 153 (food or donations). If you send a check, please write "Feed America Thursday" in the memo column. Thank you in advance for your support. I love you all dearly. Steve Brown Mayor, Peachtree City
