Commission seats decided in South Fulton

South Fulton residents will see a few new faces and more of the same in elected office as a result of Tuesday's votes.

The Fulton County Commission will welcome a new member, as Democrat Robb Pitts, a former Atlanta city councilman and mayoral candidate, defeated Karen Handel to take his seat in District 2. Commission Chairman Mike Kenn, a Republican, won another term Tuesday.

Bill Edwards of District 5, who represents south Fulton, was unopposed after an independent candidate pulled out of the race in August.

One of the new Congressional districts in Georgia, the 13th, also encompasses much of south Fulton, and Democrat David Scott will be the representative there. He defeated Republican Clay Cox with about 59 percent of the vote.

In State Senate District 34, Democrat Valencia Seay won with 59 percent of the vote over Republican Emory Wilkerson. Four candidates for each of the four posts in State House District 48 Bob Holmes, Sharon Beasley-Teague, Joe Heckstall and Virgil Fludd were unopposed.
