Atlanta organizations encouraged to apply to receive Southeastern Flower Show Legacy Garden

The Southeastern Flower Show is accepting applications from organizations interested in being the beneficiary of the 2003 "Legacy Garden," composed of plant material donated by sponsors and participants in the February show.

Begun in 1994, the Southeastern Flower Show's Legacy Garden is the organization's annual gift to the Atlanta metro area. Applications can be requested by calling 404-888-5642, emailing sgentles@flowershow.org or writing the show office at 1475 West Peachtree Street, Suite 100, Atlanta, GA 30309. The deadline for applications is Nov. 15, 2002.

The Legacy Garden, valued at in-kind contribution of $15,000, will be designed and installed in early spring 2003. The recipient agrees to assist with the installation of the garden, and to maintain the garden. Past recipients include the Charles R. Drew Charter School in East Lake and the Samuel L. Jones Boys and Girls Club in Decatur.

Preference will be given to organizations that commit to use the garden to further the Southeastern Flower Show's mission of promoting conservation and awareness of our natural environment.

The Southeastern Flower Show is the largest event of its kind in the Southeast. The show features 30 landscape and educational gardens, 1,500 judged entries, speakers, demonstrations, workshops, a 200-booth marketplace, tearoom, food court and a bookstore filled with the latest in gardening literature. The show enlists more than 2,000 volunteers. The Southeastern Flower Show has donated over $1.3 million to the Atlanta Botanical Garden over the past 15 years. The show will be held Feb. 5 9, 2003 at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Tickets are available on-line and by calling the show's ticket hotline at 404-888-5511. For more information visit www.flowershow.org or call the show office at 404-888-5638.
