PTC Flash nabs good finishes at Marist

Walton Youth Track and Red Runners Youth track hosted a youth cross-county meet at Marist this past Sunday. The PTC Flash attended competing against the Gazelles Youth Track Club, Etowah Youth Track Club, Paulding County Youth Track Club, Track Phi Track and several unattached members as well as Walton and the Red Runners. The Flash had a strong showing with 39 athletes competing.

The 8 and Under Girls, running the 2K distance (1.24 miles) again did quite well with a second place finish this week. Haley Smith, back from her recent knee injury, again led the young ladies with a fifth place finish and a time of 8:47 She was followed by sixth place Gabby Seiler at 8:53 and seventh place Clair Bohrer at 9:00. At 10th place was Katie Culpepper at 10:12, followed by Kierra Roundtree at 11:05 Shawna Garrett at 11:27 and Michaela Brown at 14:25

The 8 and Under Boys, also running the 2K, was led by Matthew Bruce with a 12th place finish of 9:12, followed by 15th place Brandon Aultman at 9:27, 19th place Ian Roberts at 9:50 and 24th place True Piper at 10:34. Alan Kim, just joining the team and running for the first time this year, finished 27th at 11:33.

The 10 and Under Girls ran the 3k (1.86 miles). They were led by Emily Kim, also running her first race for the Flash, with a 16th place finish and a time of 15:15. Next came Rita Steiger, 18th at 15:46; Jessica Brown, 20th at 16:01; Alexis Windau, 21st at 16:30 and Kelly Lange at 16:30. The 10 Boys were again led by Baylen Garrett who finished 7th at a time of 11:24. Austin Vorwald was 22nd with 12:58 and Caleb Robertson was 23rd with 13:01. Matt Donohue was close behind with a 24th place finish of 13:06, Wes Smith was 25th with 13:40 and Cameron Daniels was 32nd at 16:57.

The 12 and Under Girls secured a strong 2nd place finish, out of first by only one point. They were again led by Mary Roberts, 4th at 11:08 and followed by April Esposito, 6th at 11:25. Close behind was Shannon Philipps, 7th at 11:29 and 10th place Whitney Huguelet with 11:44. Diane Wolfong, competing for the first time in any running competition, ran 14:58 for 14th place.

The 12 Boys also secured a second place team medal for PTC Flash. Vince Brown led the boys with 5th place at 10:30. He was followed by 10th place, Jonathan Garrett at 11:00, 13th place Mehamed Gomez at 11:38 and 16th place Justin Jarrell at 11:57. At 18th place was Cory Furches with a time of 12:27, 24th was Duggan Everage with 16:21, and Kevin Kim, also running for the first time with the Flash, finished 25th with 18:22.

The 14 and Under Youth ran the 4K race (2.48 miles). The Girls team was led by Lacy Garrett, finishing 13th at a time of 17:01. She was followed by 16th place Kelly Huguelet who ran 19:17. Andy Mendenhall led the youth boys at 15:18 finishing in 12th place. Close behind was Chris Haverly who finished 14th with a time of 15:44

The Flash's next competition will be this Sunday afternoon at Etowah Youth Track Club in Cobb County.
