Panthers are a win away from region football title By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The field conditions last Friday were soggy, but that didn't stop a lot of teams from running wild and scoring points. Starr's Mill hosted McIntosh in their homecoming game and won 52-33. After a field goal by Chris James and a touchdown by Chris Strauch, McIntosh responded with a 80-yard touchdown run from Cameron Hall. Johnny Edwards ran back a punt return over 80 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, part of 28 points that the Panthers scored in the second quarter. Strauch finished with three touchdowns for the Panthers while quarterback Patrick Mullinix connected with Cagney Blackman for another touchdown. Other scorers for McIntosh were ..... McIntosh will wrap up their season this Saturday with a game against Lovejoy at Twelve Oaks Stadium in Hampton. Starr's Mill has a week off before facing Fayette County at Tiger Stadium. The Panthers are 5-1 in the region and have wins over both Lovejoy and Riverdale. If they defeat Fayette County Nov. 8, they will be 6-1 and will have captured the region championship. Lovejoy will play Riverdale in the final week. Fayette County faced Riverdale last Saturday, after play was cancelled from the night before due to poor field conditions. The Tigers lost to the Raiders 35-21. Fayette County has a week off before hosting Starr's Mill in their final game of the season. Sandy Creek (5-2) got a huge game from Phillip Hyde last Friday as the Patriots defeated Forest Park, 42-28. Hyde ran for over 250 yards and three touchdowns as Sandy Creek rolled up 463 yards of offense. Other scorers for Sandy Creek were Jamal Rome, Will Judson and Calvin Johnson, each with a touchdown reception from Dusty Bennett. The defense for Sandy Creek helped rally the team to the win with two blocked punts in the second half, one of which led to a touchdown. The Patriots are now 5-1 in the region. They will play at Woodward Academy (4-3) this Friday night. The War Eagles are 4-2 in the region. Landmark Christian remained undefeated with a 60-13 win over Whitefield Academy. The War Eagles scored 58 points in the first half, including four touchdown passes from Alex Mortensen and a 63 yard touchdown run from Evander Holyfield Jr. Sean Hill rushed for 100 yards for Landmark. The War Eagles will face Bowdon (5-2), which has won three games in a row and has put up a lot of points in those wins. Our Lady of Mercy faced Bowdon last Friday and lost 53-6. The Bobcats got a 47 yard touchdown run from William Shelton, who finished with 100 yards rushing. Our Lady of Mercy did not have the firepower to compete with Bowdon as some of their top offensive weapons were out due to injury.
