Fayette ghost tale: If you're ever out
Peter's Road . . .

In the spirit of Halloween, I would like to share a Fayetteville legend I recently dug up. If anyone has any insight into this legend or any further detail about the legend itself please feel free to respond.

As I have found, all Fayetteville folklore stems from the area surrounding Peter's Road, and this legend is not different. So here goes.

There is an old cemetery in the woods out there, apparently haunted by an Amish girl who once lived in Fayetteville. According to legend, she was once in love with a non-Amish boy. When her father found out, he told her she could never see the boy again. Distraught, the girl went into the woods one day and hanged herself.

Legend has it that you can see her ghost on the side of Peter's Road sometimes, and if you stop to pick her up she will direct you to her house. Once you stop in front of her house, you will see her father run out [and] start screaming at her. She will run into the woods and if you chase her deep into the woods, you will eventually feel something brush the top of your head. Upon looking up, you will see her dangling body hanging from a tree. Happy Halloween
