Football's playoffs are still a few weeks away but several local softball teams enter the state tournament this afternoon and the area cross country championships take place tomorrow. This is the time of year that separates a good season from a great season. In softball, East Coweta and Fayette County begin their search for a state title with games at 4 p.m., while Starr's Mill and McIntosh kicks things off with games at 6 p.m. The Lady Indians, the fourth seed out of region 4-AAAAA, will face Lowndes and will take on the winner of Stockbridge and Brunswick at 8 p.m. if they win. Fayette County, the top seed from region 4-AAAAA, will play against Lee County, which is playing their first year of fast pitch softball. If the Lady Tigers win they will take on the winner of Henry County/Glynn Academy at 8 p.m. Both McIntosh and Starr's Mill will be in for a true double header if they win their first games. McIntosh faces Tift County and would face either Eagle's Landing or Groves at 8 p.m. if they win. Starr's Mill starts things off with a game against Valdosta and would see either Wayne County or Jonesboro at 8 p.m. with a win. These games will take place at Freedom Park in Valdosta. As for cross country, the area 4-AAAAA championships will take pace at Clayton County International Park at 1 p.m., while the area 4-AAAA championship will take place in Douglasville.
