It seems the weather has gone from the stifling heat of summer to the crisp coolness of Autumn rather quickly. One perfect way to warm up is with some chili and the Peachtree Civitan's annual Great Chili Challenge this Saturday will give people all the chili they can handle.

Now in their seventh year, the Great Chili Challenge allows people from the area to get together and battle chili recipe to chili recipe. Awards are presented in the following categories: Judge's Choice to first and second place, People's Choice to the first and second place contestants selected by the public, Mayor's Award, presented to the Mayor Entry with the best overall theme, costume, design, audience appeal and chili taste, Best Booth, Best Professional Category, Best Vegetarian Chili, Most Original and Muy Caliente Chili, the hottest chili selected by the public.

The 2002 Great Chili Challenge will take place at a new venue this year, Shakerag Knoll, from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Magic 98.1 FM will have a live remote at the event during the day and there will be a WHALE car safety seat check by the Peachtree City Police Department. Other additions to the Great Chili Challenge will be a performance by the Panasonic Drum team at 11 a.m. and a children's costume parade at 2 p.m. There will also be door prize raffles, including one for a trip for two to any Wyndham Resort/Hotel, including round trip airfare to anywhere in the USA, as well as live entertainment and more.

Admission to the 2002 Great Chili Challenge is $1 and all the chili samples are free. The event is a fundraiser for Fayette Field of Hope and all proceeds from the event will go to them. Fayette Field of Hope was formed for all mentally and physically challenged children up to 18 years old and designed to give them the fun, experience, and opportunity to play baseball in its purest form.

So, skip breakfast, pack some antacid and head down to Shakerag Knoll for all the chili samples you can handle.
