Renowned operatic soprano to perform at chorale's inaugural gala

The Southern Crescent Chorale, an elite new choral group comprised of Atlanta-area residents, will host its Inaugural Gala at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center Saturday, Nov. 2. The black-tie affair will be a dinner and fundraiser for the Chorale.

The evening highlights will also include a 20-minute performance by the chorale, which will make its debut in December, followed by a champagne toast. Feature entertainment will also be provided by renowned opera singer Laura English-Robinson, winner of Italy's Golden Puccini Vocal Competition, and the Don McSwain Quintet.

The Gala begins with a cocktail hour at 7 p.m., a $100-per plate dinner at 8 p.m., and a program following which features guest speakers including Sheryl Nelson, the executive director of Spivey Hall, and Master of Ceremonies, General Ted Mallory.

The Southern Crescent Chorale is a group composed of top vocalists from the south metro Atlanta area. The Chorale is conducted by highly regarded choral director Janice Folsom, who also acts as artistic director. The Chorale has scheduled numerous performances for the inaugural season, including the annual Christmas tree lighting in Fayetteville Square, a holiday performance featuring Vivaldi's "Gloria" and other seasonal favorites, and a performance featuring Broadway favorites with the Southern Crescent Orchestra.

Laura English-Robinson is a native of Atlanta and has performed in multiple venues throughout the state, including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the direction of both the late Robert Shaw and Yoel Levi. She has also been featured nationally, including the Lincoln Center in New York City and the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. Ms, English-Robinson also sang the title role for the world premiere of the opera "Zabette," composed by Curtis Bryant and Mary Bullard.

The Don McSwain Quintet is comprised of players from the Night Train Big Band and will provide music for dancing after the dinner. Tickets and event information may be acquired by calling 770-716-1231.
