Opening Friday Abandon Katie Holmes plays a successful college senior who has visions of her boyfriend and another person, both of whom have been missing for close to four years. Benjamin Bratt plays a detective that thinks Holmes has something to do with their disappearance. Rated PG-13. Formula 51 Samuel L. Jackson in a kilt. You need to know more? He is a chemist trying to find some customers for his new drug. He goes to England and ends up on the wrong side of some bad guys. Rated R. The Ring There is a video out there and if you watch it you will die seven days later. And no, it is not "Ernest Goes to Africa," though if you watch that you will feel nauseous. "The Ring" is a remake of one of the most popular Japanese movies of all time. This is supposed to be very creepy. Rated PG-13.
Now Playing Barbershop Ice Cube stars as a barber who inherits the barbershop from his father. Cube sels it to a loan shark and then realizes the store is worth a lot more than money. Cedric the Entertainer also stars. This is doing very well and pleasing audiences all around the country. Rated PG-13. Four Feathers Heath Ledger, Kate Hudson and Wes Bentley star in this film about a British solider who is deserted by his friends for what they believe is his cowardice. Unbeknownst to them he continues to fight and proves his honor. I hear this is very good. Rated PG-13. Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie Talking vegetables re-enact the story of Jonah and the Whale. And people say I'm weird. Rated G. Knockaround Guys This movie about some young thugs who get caught in the middle of a bad situation stars Vin Diesel and Seth Green. This has been on somebody's shelf for awhile but could be good. John Malkovich also stars. Rated R. My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding This is the sleeper hit of the summer. It has enchanted audiences and stayed in theaters longer than The Scorpion King, Star Wars and Spiderman. The plot focuses on a girl from a Greek family marrying a WASP. All of the reviews from my friends and family say that it is hilarious. Enjoy. Rated PG. Red Dragon This is the story that precedes "The Silence of the Lambs." It was originally called "Manhunter" and starred Bryan Cox as Hannibal. This film features Sir Anthony Hopkins in the role he has made his own, as well as Harvey Keitel, Edward Norton and Ralph Fiennes. Rated R. Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams This should be very good. I thoroughly enjoyed the first installment of Spy Kids, which dealt with a typical family with a not so typical profession. Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino star as the spy parents while Ricardo Montalban joins the cast as Spy Grandpa. Spy Kids was a fun movie for the whole family and I expect more of the same with the sequel. Rated PG. Sweet Home Alabama Filmed around the state, including areas in Fayette County, this film focuses on a girl from the south who has found fame, fortune and love up north. She returns below the Mason-Dixon line to finalize a divorce so she can marry the son of the mayor of New York but finds she still is attracted to her first husband. This stars Reese Witherspoon and Candice Bergen among others. Rated PG-13. The Banger Sisters Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon star in this film about former rock and roll groupies who have grown apart. They are reunited and must come to terms with who they are. Hawn and Sarandon are both excellent actresses and this movie could be good. Of course, it could also not be very good. Rated R. The Rules of Attraction Based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel about rich kids gone wild at a small northeastern college, this film stars James Van Der Beek as one of the main characters caught in a bizarre love triangle. I enjoyed the book immensely and am looking forward to the film. Rated R. The Transporter A former U.S. special agent hires himself out to deliver any pakage anywhere. His latest job gets him in a world of trouble and he must fight for what is right. My sources tell me this is a lot of fun. Rated PG-13. The Tuxedo Jackie Chan stars as a James Bondesque spy's bumblimng assistant. When his boss is captured, Chan must don the tuxedo, full of Inspector Gadegt like contraptions, and save the day. Jennifer Love Hewitt also stars. Rated PG-13. Tuck Everlasting Based on the popular children's novel, this story is about a girl who discovers a family that has found a fountain of youth. Rated PG. Also Playing Blood Work Clint Eastwood stars as a detective who comes out of retirement to solve the murder of the girl who donated blood or her heart to him. Jeff Daniels also stars. Rated R. Blue Crush Girls can surf too. That is the plot of this film with amazing visuals and cheesy dialogue. This has done pretty well with fans and critics alike and should be worth a buck. Rated PG-13. Eight Legged Freaks David Arquette stars in this movie about giant, mutated spiders invading and attacking a town. This was a lot of fun. It was kind of like a cross between "Starship Troopers" and "Gremlins." Rated PG-13. Like Mike Lil' Bow Wow stars as a small fry who finds some shoes with the initials "MJ" in them. The shoes turn out to be magical and Lil' Bow Wow wows the NBA. A bunch of real NBA stars are in the film. Rated PG. Lilo and Stich The story of a little girl who befriends an alien. This is a Disney film with an Elvis soundtrack. It looks like a lot of fun. Rated G. Martin Lawrence Live: Runteldat A comedy concert film featuring Lawrence talking about his breakdown among other things. Expect lots of foul language and lots of laughs. Rated R. Mr Deeds Adam Sandler returns to the big screen as a very nice man who inherits a large fortune. John Turturro is one of the highlights of the show as the very sneaky butler. Rated PG-13.
